Fred White appointed as district judge

On Thursday, Fred White learned from the governor’s office that he was appointed to fill the vacant district judgeship serving Whitley and McCreary counties until the Nov. 4 election.

The seat was left vacant after previous district judge Daniel Ballou was elected as circuit judge. White said he is anxious to begin serving his appointment.

“I’m trying to get on the bench as soon as possible,” he said.

First, he must complete a training course on the position.

White said his experience in the district court will be beneficial. He has practiced as attorney for 23 years, primarily in McCreary, Whitley and Laurel counties.

“I can’t begin to estimate how many cases I’ve worked in the district court,” he said. “That’s where the majority of my experience lies.”

White also said his own life experience of raising two daughters, Kelsie and Erin, will benefit him in his new post.

“Probably the most important thing you can do in the district court is take care of children,” he said.

White said he is prepared to do what it takes to justly serve the citizens of the two counties he will represent.

“It’s an honor to represent Whitley and McCreary counties,” he said. “I will do my best to live up to that honor. I will treat people fairly.”

White is seeking election to the seat and will face Jane Butcher, Jason Price and Lee Gilbert Jr. in the race for the judgeship on Nov. 4.
