Thank you to Hunter Hills faculty, staff, parents

CORBIN — Thank you to all Hunter Hills faculty, staff and parents for working so hard. Hunter Hills Elementary school was 13th in the state out of 730 elementary schools in state testing for the 2012-2013 school year. Hunter Hills also scored second in the state compared to several hundred other large, impoverished schools. What a local accolade for Hunter Hills to be proud of scoring higher than any other school located in the Tri-County including Knox, Laurel and Whitley counties and the three independent districts in Barbourville, Corbin and Williamsburg.

Hunter Hills houses between 630-650 students throughout the year with 86 percent of those qualifying for free/reduced lunch (the highest in Laurel County.) Hunter Hills’ teaching staff has proven that poor does not equal dumb. These young people who face so many hardships economically have prospered at Hunter Hills. The Hunter Hills atmosphere is always filled with positive energy and dedication to being the best they can be.

The Hunter Hills community should feel proud about their accomplishments on the 2012-2013 testing scores. I am so thankful that my own children attend school in such a positive prospering environment.

Heather Martinez,

Proud Hunter Hills parent
