Patriot Day Program makes reader proud

TIMES TRIBUNE (CORBIN, Ky.)

CORBIN — The Forcht Bank and Forcht Group sponsored a Patriot Day event at their banking location on Knox Street.

After much planning and work by the aforementioned groups, and Michael and Vickie Phipps, our community proudly came together to have a day of solemn remembrance for those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, for those who are currently serving as first responders in Knox County, and for those who have served in the past. Also, remembered were the Air Evac workers recently killed in the helicopter crash in Manchester.

This program allowed our community to remember and thank those in uniform — military, police officers, firefighters, medical workers, etc. who save lives every day. Their sacrifice represents the best of our country.

When we seriously think about what it means to have their jobs, we should think of the responsibilities, the training, the heat and cold, the frustrations, their long and often inconvenient hours, and how they risk their lives so that we may have better communities. Their sacrifice allows citizens to live in dignity, prosperity, and freedom.

Events like the Patriot Day Program make me proud to live in Knox County. Again, I want to say thank you to all those who were responsible for this program that reminds us to remember.
