I would like to address a situation that has happened more than we probably realize. My only son recently passed away while out running with his wife and son. As a memorial to him we put a heart-shaped flower arrangement with his name, date of birth and date of death written on it at the site where he died. It has given us comfort to know that people saw it and thought of him and his death.
We visit this site frequently because it comforts us to be there. This past Sunday we drove to the site and were heartbroken to see that someone had taken the heart. The thief cut the wires we had used to attach it to the guardrail. I wonder how this person felt when he or she took the heart and why it was taken? Was the person so desperate for money it was taken to resell (it may have brought $5-10 at a yard sale)? Or is it being used on the grave of one of the thief’s loved ones? Only God knows the reasoning.
To the person who took it (if you are reading this): Do know that I forgive you because God tells me I have to. I also want you to know I do pray for you. I pray God will convict you every time you think of it.
I wonder how low a person has to sink to do such a thing.
My son was a hardworking man and a loving husband, father, son and brother to his family. I pray you could grow to be half the person he was.
