Help fill ‘Bedtime Backpacks’ for Okla. tornado victims

The Times-Tribune

CORBIN — As most people have heard by now, on Monday, May 20, central Oklahoma was ravaged by a very large EF-5 tornado. After being on the ground for more than 25 minutes, it left a 17-mile long path of destruction. Hundreds of homes, businesses and schools were totally destroyed. After the storm had passed, there were over 20 lives lost, including several young children, and thousands of others left homeless.

Cook Tire, Inc., in London, has joined “Bedtime Backpacks,” headed by J.D. Rogers from this area. We are asking for the community’s help in putting together “Bedtime Backpacks” to be delivered to children in Moore, Okla., on June 7. You can help by filling new backpacks with simple items like pajamas, undergarments, toothbrushes and paste, hair care products and nail kits. Please include something personal like a book or coloring book for the younger children and a book or deck of cards, maybe even cologne or perfume for the older individuals. The backpacks delivered can also be used for school this fall.

Letting them know that people care and that there is life after the storm can restore hope and the promise of a brighter day.

Get creative and put your own touch on the gift. It can be a lot of fun helping others! Please label what size items are included on the outside of the backpack.

If you would like a flyer or more information, I have listed our contact numbers below.

All backpacks need to be at Cook Tire in London no later than June 6. J.D. will be leaving on June 7 to deliver them to Oklahoma.

Thank you,
