Lady Cats deserve a standing ovation
I’d like to take a few minutes to tell everyone about this year’s Lynn Camp Lady Cats volleyball team. They had a very tough season, winning only one game. But their win/loss record is not what’s important. Sportsmanship is the name of any game. It’s easy to have good sportsmanship when you are winning. Keeping it during losses... that’s another thing.
During the season, I’ve seen tears, but I’ve seen laughter, too. I’ve seen players give up, but I’ve seen troopers who hung in there and gave 100 percent, their very best. Some of the players are even right now talking about winter practice sessions and going to volleyball camps next summer. Their spirit is unphased and their resolve strong.
I’ve learned a lot from this volleyball team and I claim bragging rights. They’ve taught me about patience and courage. Often they realized they weren’t the best team but went out there and played their hardest. They taught me about being a team. No one ever pointed at a teammate to blame them. Instead, when a mistake was made, the others would offer encouragement and a high five or two.
They taught me about dedication and pride. Wearing that Lynn Camp uniform will always be a badge of honor to them. And they taught me about persistence. They never gave up, no matter how hard and difficult the conditions were. My dad had written in a Bible he carried during World War II: “When a task is once begun, never leave it till it’s done, be the task great or small, do it well or not at all.”
That’s the way I see these 2009 Lady Cats. The task was daunting but they kept their courage. Above all, they kept their sportsmanship. Only one team can earn the title of Best Sportsmanship and today I give this highest honor to these Lady Cats. Congratulations on a most successful season.
At the District Tournament Monday night, once again they played hard, but their opponent came from behind for the win. After I got home, I thought it would have been very appropriate if all Lynn Camp fans there had given the team a standing ovation. It’s always easier to think of things later. So now I’d like to give a standing ovation and a tip of the hat to Alexis, Blaze, Cassidy, Emily, Erin, Jessica, Kendra, Lori, Mary-Jane, Rachel and Selena.
I applaud you girls for a job well done.
Gary Scott,
Corbin
