Court should seek justice for great dane

I am writing in regards to the story of Princess and her life. Her life was so much more meaningful than “Community Service at the animal shelter.” What is going on with our justice system? The people of Knox County should be at the courthouse screaming for ‘justice’ in the memory of Princess. No animal should ever have lived one day of Princess’ life while she was under the care of the accused Virgil Whitaker.

Unthinkable.

Unbelievable. So unspeakable that it is actually heartbreaking to talk about her story without your eyes tearing up and your heart aching from the thoughts of what this poor domestic dog’s life was like.

I can just imagine while Princess was in the ‘lot’ she was bound to during the time of her abuse and neglect. Every time she saw her owner, or probably just a human being coming close to her confined lot, she was thinking of the heartbreaking questions. Are they coming to bring her food? Are they coming to save her? Are they coming to save her and end the unthinkable torture her poor starving body was experiencing from the neglect, abuse and torture along with the horrific disease of cancer growing within her starving body?

It doesn’t get more pathetic than these thoughts. My husband and I were two of many that made several trips to Frankfort during the fight for Senate Bill 58, known as Romeo’s Law. Although the bill did pass into law, the law doesn’t take effect until July 1st. These animals need our voices. I beg the community of Knox County to speak up before Virgil Whitaker’s trial.

Call or write your county attorney, plead for a harsher punishment if he is found guilty. During my experience within the court system, which I work, more than likely before Virgil Whitaker will let a jury of our peers decide his fate regarding his charges, he will take the last offer from Knox County’s county attorney. Please, stand up and use your voice for “Princess.” She deserves your respect and help seeking justice.

Do it for her memory. Don’t allow your county’s judicial system to accept this type of behavior by the actions of man to our four-legged furry friends that have no other choice than to depend on the human that claims ownership of their voiceless, helpless life. Please call your county attorney and demand they prosecute this case with a more demanding, harsher force.

Jenia Sizemore,

Leslie County
