Remember to vote in local primary elections May 20

May 14, 2008 11:28 am

The 2008 Kentucky Primary Election on May 20th is just around the corner, and it is important that Laurel Republicans have a great voter turn out.
While the main focus for the media is the 2008 Presidential Election, and Senator John McCain is the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party, Laurel Republicans still need to show up at the polls on May 20th for all of our important local elections.
On the ballot in Laurel County, we have contested Republican Primary races in the 82nd State House District which includes Southern Laurel and Whitley counties, and the 89th State House District that is made up of Northern and Central Laurel, Jackson, and Owsley counties.
Also, there is a non-partisan race for district judge in Laurel and Knox counties to fill the seat vacated by Judge Mike Caperton after his election in 2007 to the Kentucky Court of Appeals.   Both Republicans and Democrats can vote in this primary race from a selection of five candidates that are on the ballot.  The top two vote getters will then have a runoff in the November election.
To find out more about the upcoming races visit the Laurel County Republican Web site at www.laurel

So, I encourage all Laurel Republicans to turn out on Tuesday, May 20th and exercise your most important right as Americans —  the right to vote!
