KPA intern joins the Times-Tribune staff

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

Kristina Smith has joined the Times-Tribune staff this summer as an intern through the Kentucky Press Association.

Smith, a London native, graduated from South Laurel High School in 2011 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Journalism and Public Relations from the University of the Cumberlands in May.

Smith previously served as a staff writer and design editor at Cumberlands’ campus paper, The Patriot.

Upon graduating from the Cumberlands, Smith received an award for most outstanding senior in the Journalism and Public Relations department.

“I’m looking forward to taking what I learned from my time at Cumberland and applying it at the next level with the Times-Tribune.  Journalism is something I’ve always been passionate about and to be able to do it now, outside of a class room setting, is just great,” Smith said.

Smith looks to have a journalism career now that she has graduated.

Outside of the newsroom, Smith is an avid reader of Stephen King, a Cincinnati Reds fan, and a member of the Big Blue Nation.

Smith is the daughter of Stephen and Carolee Smith of London.
