Free tickets available for concert in Corbin

By Becky Killian, Managing Editor

Free tickets are now available for an upcoming concert at Corbin Public Library that will feature classical guitarist Peter Fletcher.

Fletcher, a New York City resident, began studying guitar at age 7 and made his formal debut at age 15. A news critic wrote at that time, “He has technical facility but what one remembers about his playing is the nuances, the poetical phrasing, dynamic and tonal changes, his harmonics, his cadences.”

Fletcher has been broadcast on National Public Radio, Storyline on Turner Broadcasting System, Fox-affiliate WAGA-TV’s “Good Day Atlanta,” and has won numerous awards, among them the Music Teacher’s National Association National Level Competition Award; he has twice received an Eastman Graduate Award.

Fletcher has performed at Carnegie Hall four times and his last concert there was to a sold-out house. He is set to again perform in that venue.

While in Corbin on Thursday, June 21, Fletcher is expected to perform in two 45-minute sessions. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and, during intermission, refreshments will be provided.

The event, sponsored by Friends of Corbin Library, aims to get people into the library, according to Rob Miller, president of the Friends group.

“We try to do outreach programs like that for the community,” Miller said.

Seating is limited so people are encouraged to call the library at 528-6366 or stop by during regular library hours to get tickets.

Miller said Friends will try to accommodate as many people as they can.
