World Chicken Festival gets underway today

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

London’s World Chicken Festival gets underway today at noon when the largest stainless steel skillet fires up to cook chicken all weekend.

Rides, booths and entertainment will fill the weekend.

Beginning at 5 p.m., the midway opens with rides for kids and adults.

Children’s rides are on the corner of Broad and Seventh streets and the larger rides are alongside Broad Street toward the south end of downtown.

Along Main and Broad streets will be food and souvenirs, arts, crafts and exhibits.

Kids Day Circus will continue through Saturday with two to three shows a day.

Magic Mike will provide laughter and comedy with two or three shows daily.

The Dukes of Hazzard’s Cletus Hogg will be at Booth 111 through the festival.

At the Sanders Stage on North Main, near the chicken skillet:

• 6 p.m. the Tri-County stompers will perform and registration for the Karaoke contest will begin.

• 7 p.m. Sandra Lee and Cliff will provide music from the ‘50s and ‘60s.

• 8 p.m. the karaoke contest will begin.

At the Stage of Stars in mid-town between Main and Broad streets:

• 7 p.m. Burns & Poe, followed by Sandra Lee and Cliff with 50’s and 60’s music.

• 8:30 p.m. the 185th Laurel County Anniversary Preview will begin.

• 9 p.m. Ricochet will perform.

The festival closes at 11 p.m.

On Friday and Saturday the foods, souvenirs, arts, crafts, exhibits the rides, the Kids Day Circus and Magic Mike will be available all day.

Friday at 10 a.m. the Survival Egg Drop will be on Main Street in mid-town and the volleyball tournament will be held at Mill Street Park.

The Bluegrasss Cannonball “Egg-spress” will begin its non-stop route through town beginning at 10 a.m.

At 11 a.m. the huge skillet begins cooking chicken.

At the Sanders Court Stage:

• 1:30 p.m. the Road to Honor.

• 4 p.m. Sandra Sexton with 50’s and 60’s music.

• 5:30 the Pine Mountain Dancers will perform, along with Chick-O-Lympics and the Red Neck Games.

• 6 p.m. registration for the karaoke contest.

• 7 p.m. Soldier, singer and songwriter Jamie Buckley.

• 7:30 p.m. the karaoke contest.

At the Stage of Stars:

• 7:30 Elliott Collett.

• 9 p.m. Alabama Blues Brothers.

The festival closes at midnight.

Saturday’s the big day for the festival.

• 7 a.m. 5K run/walk beginning at London Elementary School.

• 9 a.m. the WCF Car Show begins at South Laurel High School until 3 p.m.

• 10 a.m. The Parade on Main Street, The Country Showdown rehearsal at Sanders stage, the volleyball tournament at Mill Street Park.

• 11 a.m. the big skillet begins frying chicken.

At the Sanders Court stage:

• Noon, the Clucking, Crowing & Struttin’ contest.

• 1 p.m. Dewayne Spaw, and registration for the hot wing eating contest.

• 2 p.m. the hot wing eating contest.

• 3 p.m. Hypno Mike and registration for redneck games.

• 4 p.m. redneck games.

• 5 p.m. Jamie Buckley.

• 6 p.m. Country Showdown finals.

• 8 p.m. Hypno Mike.

• 9:30 p.m. By Pro Station.

On the Stage of Stars:

• 2 p.m. Col. Sanders Look-a-like contest.

• 5 p.m. Col. Sanders Look-a-like contest with Jerry Isaacs, Red Hen Boogie Band.

• 6:15 p.m. Mike Bishop Hypnotist.

• 7:30 p.m. Dewayne Spaw.

• 9 p.m. Exile.

The festival closes at midnight.

Sunday activities begin at 1 p.m on the Stage of Stars.

• 1 p.m. Sonmen.

• 1:35 p.m. Benge Family.

• 2:10 p.m. Hawk Creek Praise.

• 2:40 p.m. Gabbards.

• 3:15 p.m. Sonmen.

• 4 p.m. Calvary Heirs.

• 4:30 p.m. Fair Haven Quartet
