A guide to Fourth of July events and closings

Offices across the Tri-County area will be closed Friday in observation of Independence Day, but area residents can also expect to see a few celebrations.

There will be no Friday edition of the Times-Tribune, but subscribers can expect to have the Weekend Edition mailed to them Saturday. The Weekend Edition will also be available in newsstands.

The United States Postal Service will not deliver mail Friday.

Knox, Laurel and Whitley County courthouses will be closed. All county clerk’s offices will be closed Friday. The Laurel County clerk’s office will also be closed Saturday.

London, Corbin and Williamsburg city halls will not be open Friday.

Public libraries in Knox, Laurel and Whitley counties will be closed.

Knox, Laurel and Whitley County health departments will close for Independence Day.

Fireworks shows will be available for viewing across the Tri-County.

Corbin will host an Independence Day block party at 5 p.m. Thursday at Nibroc Park. The 23 String Band will perform. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. downtown.

Kentucky Splash Water Park in Wililamsburg will open at 11 a.m. Friday and close at 7 p.m. to prepare for a fireworks show. Gates will reopen at 9 p.m. for the free public viewing.

Barbourville City Park Ball Field will start with a car show at 11 a.m. Friday followed by a live DJ at 5 p.m. Fireworks start at dusk.

Red, White & Boom in London will open at 3 p.m. Friday at College Park near Somerset Community College and the Laurel County Public Library. Activities begin at 4 p.m. Fireworks begin at dusk.

On Friday, Cumberland Falls State Resort Park near Corbin will present games and activities throughout the day, such as a dunking booth, a bouncy castle and carnival-type games, as well as a corn hole tournament Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Craft vendors will be set up on Friday and Saturday. And, Levi Jackson State Park in London presents their annual July Fourth Celebration for campers on Friday and Saturday. Recreation activities and performances are planned, including a campers-only pool party. Camping reservations are recommended, with a minimum three-night stay. Call the park at 606-330-2130 for information.
