Laurel Fair begins this weekend

CORBIN — By Kristina Smith / Staff Writer

A chainsaw carver, a KISS tribute band and 6,000 pound trucks will all converge at the Laurel County Fairgrounds beginning Tuesday.

However, Laurel County Fair events kick off at 3 p.m. today (Saturday) at the North Laurel High School Auditorium with pageants for Miss Pre-Teen, Miss Teen and Miss Laurel County Fair. Pageants will continue 2 p.m. tomorrow for Baby, Toddler and Little Miss & Mister Laurel County Fair.

Fairground gates open Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. with carnival rides starting 30 minutes later. After those gates open it’s nothing but non-stop action at the fairgrounds.

Dennis Beach, a world champion chainsaw carver from Pennsylvania, will do five shows a day Tuesday through Saturday.

Musical acts ranging from Bluegrass to rock and roll will perform throughout the week. All performances will take place at the fairground’s newly renovated pavilion. A karaoke contest, a talent search and a singing competition will serve as additional entertainment throughout the week.

The Ponderosa Petting Zoo with their farming and exotic animals will open at 6 p.m. daily.

Motorsports events begin Wednesday at 7 p.m. with dirt bike and ATV drags. Kentucky Truck Tuggers tug-of-war will be Thursday at 7 p.m. To finish off the weekend the Kentuckiana Truck Pullers Association will have truck and tractor pulls at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
