Dig out your dancing shoes — it’s block party time in Williamsburg once again.

The first block party is slated for Friday from 8-11 p.m. at Bill Woods Park. The Sensations out of Lexington will provide the music and entertainment for the night.

Though, according to Main Street Manager Nannie Hays, there’s nothing more entertaining than watching Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison kick off the dance each year.

“Watching Roddy dance, now there’s the real entertainment,” Hays said with a laugh.

The event offers free, family-oriented fun that brings the whole community together. Hays said she believed this is the fifth year of the block parties.

“Our attendance is always good, but we hope for more to come out each year,” Hays said.

She invites everyone to bring their lawn chair and have a good time.

“If you don’t like to dance, then come out and visit; you’ll probably see people you haven’t seen in a while and there’s always a nice breeze blowing through Bill Woods Park,” Hays said.

The next block party is slated for June 22 with City Heat playing. Klassyc Tymes will perform on July 6 and Familiar Faces on July 20. There will be Movies in the Park at Bill Woods Park on all the weekends in between the block parties, according to Hays, who said she hopes the public comes out to take advantage of the free entertainment.

“It’s a good opportunity to get out, socialize and enjoy some free family entertainment,” Hays said.

Bill Woods Park is located at the corner of Cumberland Avenue and South Third Street in downtown Williamsburg.
