At 5:30 p.m. tonight, the gates of the Laurel County Fairgrounds will open, offering the community entertainment, a bit of singing, magic, a petting zoo, carnival rides, truck races and lots of fun for family and friends.
The fair continues until Saturday on KY 229 about three miles south of London.
The carnival rides begin at 6 p.m. each evening.
Tickets are $10 for all sites in the Fairgrounds and children shorter than 36 inches get in free if they are with adults.
Jimmy Durham, president of the London-Laurel Ruritan Club, said, “I think that we have the best music that we’ve ever had out there.”
At 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday night, the local band called The Grand Jury will begin the fair.
The music on Wednesday through Friday will be at 9 p.m. and Saturday night at 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday night is rock and roll band High and Mighty. Thursday night will be The Medley Boys who have just come out of Nashville.
Norma Jean’s Sweetheart Mafia from Tennessee is on Friday.
On Saturday night is Candy Coburn, a national recording artist. She’s opened for singers such as Hank Williams Jr. and other Grand Ole Opry acts.
The Little Ponderosa Petting Zoo will open each night at 6 p.m.
It’s an exotic rescue center. The zoo will be inside the Agriculture Building on the fairgrounds.
There will also be a blacksmith doing demonstrations. He’s geared toward the kids, Durham said. “He actually lets the kids forge iron in the coals and they take a piece of steel forged into a horseshoe,” he explained.
The Kent Family Magic Circus is back from several years at the fair and doing three shows an evening at 6:30, 8 and 10:30 p.m.
Pageants are always a big thing at the Laurel Fair with Little Miss/Little Mister at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday night is Pre-Teen/Teen.
On Friday at 7 p.m., the Laurel County Sing-Off preliminaries will be held with the finals on Saturday.
Dirt fills the air Wednesday with the ATV/Dirt Bike Dirt Races at 8 p.m. On Thursday, it’s the Truck Tug of War at 7 p.m.
On Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m will be the KPTA Truck Pull.
