During Tuesday’s election, voters in Knox County will determine the winners in their county’s contested races.
In Barbourville, voters will be asked to select six of 11 candidates for city council. Incumbents running are Wilma Barnes, Gary Williams, Johnny Farmer and Gerald Hyde. Other candidates are Bennie Bunch, Danny Stark, Jerry Jackson, Ronnie Moore, Darren West, Sherman Lawson and Wendell Smith.
City voters will also select two of three candidates for the Barbourville Independent Schools Board of Education. Incumbents Kenneth G. Cobb and Shirley F. Treadway appear on the ballot along with challenger Sandy Tye Lundy.
There are three district races for the Knox County Schools Board of Education. The District 3 race pits incumbent Marty “Hossie” Smith against Charles W. Meridia. In District 4, incumbent Kenneth Crawford faces Dexter Smith and, in District 5, voters will chose between incumbent Clarence Brown and Merrill Smith.
There is also a constable race in District 2 between Johnny Gray and Tom Gray.
