CORBIN — By Becky Killian and Carl Keith Greene

Regina Bunch will serve the remaining time on her husband’s first term as state representative for the 82nd House District.

During Tuesday’s special election, Regina Bunch, 49, received 654 votes in Whitley County and 34 votes in Laurel County.

She was the sole candidate on Tuesday’s ballot after being tapped by the two county’s republican parties.

Regina Bunch will complete her husband’s, Dewayne Bunch’s, term.

Dewayne Bunch, 49, was in his first term in the House when he was injured while trying to break up a fight between two students at the Whitley County High School cafeteria.

In October, Dewayne Bunch resigned his seat so there would be time to choose a replacement before the 2012 General Assembly.

Regina Bunch announced her intention to run for the seat on Nov. 1.

A special election for a replacement was set by Gov. Steve Beshear.

No Democrats chose to run against Regina Bunch.

It will be the first elected post for Regina Bunch, who works as a special education teacher at Whitley County Middle School.
