Col. Mustard with the candlestick in Heaven

CORBIN — One of my favorite movies is the murder mystery comedy “Clue,” which is based on the popular board game of the same name.

In the movie, six random people are invited to a dinner party at an old mansion where they are met by the butler, Wadsworth.

Wadsworth proceeds to give them all pseudonyms to protect their actual identities which somewhat confuses all of the guests.

Professor Plum is a psychiatrist who lost his medical license.

Mrs. Peacock is the wife of a senator who accepted bribes to deliver her husband’s vote.

Mrs. White was drawn in to avoid a scandal regarding the mysterious death of her physicist husband.

Miss Scarlet operates an illegal business.

Colonel Mustard was a war profiteer who made money from selling stolen radio components.

And Mr. Green is an employee of the State Department.

As the movie proceeds, a seventh guest, Mr. Boddy, arrives at the mansion.

The group then congregates in the study when the lights suddenly go out.

When the lights come back on, Mr. Boddy is lying dead and a bullet hole is found in the wall.

Everyone denies killing him, which leads to a search of the house for a mystery murderer.

During the search, three more people visit the mansion — a stranded motorist, a police officer investigating the motorist’s abandoned car, and a singing telegram lady.

One by one, those three new visitors get respectively murdered with the wrench in the lounge, the lead pipe in the library, and the revolver in the hall. Later, the maid is murdered in the billiard room with the rope.

As the night comes to a close, Wadsworth the butler reveals he knows who the murderer is.

This sets off one of the more interesting aspects of this movie — it has three separate endings.

When the movie was released in theaters back in 1985, the movie was shown with just one ending with different theaters receiving different endings.

For the DVD and VHS releases, however, you get to see all three endings.

For the first ending, it is revealed that Miss Scarlet is the murderer and Wadsworth is an undercover detective who arrests her.

In the second ending, Mrs. Peacock is revealed as the murderer and is able to escape the mansion. But she is met and captured by police when making her way to her car.

In the final ending, every character is revealed to be a murderer with the exception of Mr. Green. Mr. Green then announces he is an undercover FBI agent and had the whole evening set up to catch all these criminals.

So in theaters, you had to accept one ending, but with the DVD, you get to choose how the movie ends.

If you think of our lives as one big movie, we get to ultimately choose the ending as well. Or better yet, we can choose for our lives to never end by having faith in Jesus Christ.

John 5:24 says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

We can choose to ask Jesus Christ into our hearts and save us from lives of sin. That will allow us to live with Him and all our loved ones forever in a glorious place called Heaven.

Or we can choose that other unfortunate ending of death with eternal condemnation in that scary place called Hell.

In the movie “Clue,” you have a choice of three endings which were all satisfactory ways to conclude the film.

In our own lives, the choice of following Christ should be the easiest choice we ever make. One ending is clearly better than the other.

And I pray that everyone who reads this understands how great it is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and how terrible it could be if you don’t.
