Bargain Hunters’ Paradise

Thousands come out for steals and deals during East 80 Sale

By Samantha Swindler / Managing Editor

Thousands of bargain hunters from across Kentucky converged along East Highway 80 for the ninth annual East 80 Yard Sale.

Michael Robertson and Kiara Robertson, siblings from Clay County, found a treasure in matching black cowboy hats.

“We just like it,” said their mother Christi Robertson, who’s come nearly every year of the sale. “It’s exciting, and we like to find new things.”

Traffic between London and Manchester came to a crawl in front of clusters of homes with yard sales.

“I have seen a lot of people that really can’t fit in the parking lot, it’s been so full,” said Robbie Gabbard, owner of Robby’s Music at 1100 East Laurel Road. Gabbard rented out a portion of his parking lot to sellers.

“There’s been a lot of people in and out,” he said, “and some of them so excited they’ll just pull in and jump right out and don’t even really notice where they are.”

Shannon Roark and her family drove from Elizabethtown to start shopping at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

“This is the first time I’ve been here,” she said. “It’s been good. We bought quite a bit. We bought movies and Christmas lights and little brown jugs.”
