K-9 cop visits Knox Library

K-9 and cop visit Knox County summer reading program

By Sean Bailey / Staff Writer

“Those two are like celebrities to these kids,” said Mary Alice Lundy of the Knox County Public Library as Barbourville K9 Officer Kenny Williamson and his partner Gus the German Shepherd visited with kids taking part in this year’s summer reading program at the library.

Each week, someone from the community read to the children and discussed the week’s theme. This week, Megan Gaunt from Union College read the classic Dr. Seuss book, “The Places You Will Go” and talked to the kids about going to college.

Other topics have included a book on the different kinds of ambulance services that help save lives. Lundy said the library might get one last special guest to speak about the ambulance theme before the program ends — on Friday the kids will be able to see a helicopter in action, provided it’s not busy saving lives.
