This year the Whitley County Fair Pageant gave out a record $11,500 in cash scholarship awards. Over $1,000 was raised by the pageant contestants, which was presented to Charlotte Brewer for donation to the American Cancer Society. Each of the contestants also completed five hours of community service throughout the county and wrote a 100-word essay on their work. Each contestant chose a country to represent and introduced themselves on stage in that country’s language.

The members of the new Whitley County Fair Pageant board are Tammy Walker, director, Gail Fredericks, Iona Patrick, Lincoln Patrick, Teresa Black and Corissa Black.

The Whitley County Beauty and Baby Contest had a record turnout of 48 contestants. All of the winners received a sash, crown and trophy. The winners of the 5-7 group will go to the Miss/Master Kentucky State Fair pageant in August, and the 8-12 pre-teen and the 13-15 teen winners will be competing in the same competition in October. The pageant’s special guest Courtney Norvall, who placed in the top 10 in the Miss Kentucky pageant, sang during the intermission. Kayla Felts, who was the 2007 pre-teen winner, attended this year’s pageant and crowned all of the winners. The volunteer director of this year’s Miss/Master Pageant was Michele Calton.
