Not knowing the prices of Wal-Mart’s baby products earned Timothy Wyatt a face-full of cake Saturday after he ended up at the losing end of a “The Price is Right” game played Babyfest style.
“Looks like someone is going to shop at Wal-Mart a bit more,” Lee Richardson of Baptist Regional Medical Center said as she handed Wyatt’s girlfriend Ginger Waters a small piece of cake.
After a little egging on by Richardson and the Babyfest attendees, Waters planted the cake in Wyatt’s face. Waters followed up the “punishment” with a kiss.
Babyfest is organized by the Southern Kentucky Area Health Education Center (AHEC) to educate area moms on everything from car seat safety to infant massage techniques.
Anna Jones, with AHEC said her organization is a collaboration between regional medical providers and health educators meant to link community and academic resources.
“We saw a need, with the teenage pregnancy rate what it is, to educate young people. A lot of young mothers lack knowledge of raising children and pregnancy,” Jones said.
Saturday’s attendance at the Corbin Technology Center topped off at 381 people, 139 of which were mothers. Before the educational speakers began, attendees were treated to snacks and booths from area vendors.
If you missed this spring’s Babyfest, Jones said AHEC will be hosting another one in London in the fall.
