Main Street changes begin

Corbin pet shop gets a fresh coat of paint

By Sean Bailey | Staff Writer

Corbin’s Purrfect Pets pet shop on Main Street got a new coat of paint on Tuesday as part of a program by the Main Street Design Committee.

The building was red and yellow, but with paint donated by Sherwin-Williams it was painted brown and silver.

Main Street Manager, Sharae Myers, said the committee chose the colors to complement the brick structure and to match the historical context of Main Street.

“We’re doing this partly to bring awareness to the community about the improvements for Main Street and stress the historical context of the improvements,” Myers said.

Business owner Steve Johnson said he chose the original red and yellow scheme to attract customers.

“I wanted it bright to look good, but if they want it dark and brown to match the other buildings, I guess that’s fine with me,” Johnson said.

Myers said that Dora Mobley from the Corbin Housing Authority asked for volunteers to help repaint the building. Wayne’s Supply helped with other supplies, and today crews will be putting up new shingles on the canopy.

The property owner, Harold Taylor, hasn’t seen the new paint job yet, but said he “has faith it will be a big improvement.”

“It’s really nice they are trying to do something as far as improvements for the downtown,” Taylor said.
