Times-Tribune Staff Report
A London man and a 15-year-old boy were arrested Wednesday after they drove through a subdivision and fired a gun at animals, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.
When deputies stopped Charles R. Farthing, 18, Root said they found a dead fox and a dead cat in the black Silverado pickup he was driving. The cat was someone’s pet.
Deputies Greg Turner and Robbie Grimes responded about 10 p.m. to a call about shots being fired near houses. They found the pickup and stopped it.
Farthing and the boy were charged with second-degree wanton endangerment and third-degree criminal mischief. Farthing was jailed in the Laurel County Detention Center. The boy was released to his father.
Deputies seized a .22 caliber rifle and a .270 rifle from the pickup, which was towed.
Farthing admitted the two were driving around looking for animals to shoot, Root said.
Assisting at the scene were Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter, Detective Sgt. Tommy Johnston, Deputy Steve Hoskins and Constable Eldon Brown.
