Keavy man arrested for endangerment

On Monday, Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Scott was called to a home on Locust Grove about six miles south of London.

About 3:10 a.m., Scott arrived at the home of the girlfriend of Richard J. Lawson, 36, of Keavy.

There he found a bullet hole in the floor of the home and found a .410-gauge pistol with an empty shell case inside it.

His investigation found that the fired round landed near to where the couple’s 10-year-old son had been sitting.

Lawson was arrested at the site and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment.

Deputy Kirk Mays and Constable Denver Mays assisted.

Meth lab found in Canadatown

At 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Whitley County Deputy Jeff Anderson responded to a call on Long Bottom Road in the Canadatown community.

When he got there he found an active meth lab.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Kelly Farris disassembled it.

No arrests have been made but Anderson is still investigating.

Unsanitary living conditions found in Whitley County

Also on Sunday at about noon, Deputy Cody Harrell in Whitley County was called to a home where he found unsanitary living conditions.

Harrell had been asked for a welfare check at the home.

Upon arrival he contacted the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

He had found four children from 3 to 16 years old who were taken from the home by Family Services.

Man arrested for ax assault

At about 10 p.m. Sunday, Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Blunschi was sent to a home where a subject had apparently been cut with an ax.

When he and four deputies arrived at a home on Locust Grove about eight miles from London they learned that Justin D. Parsons had allegedly been arguing with his wife.

A man named Lowell Huff tried to intervene.

Parsons apparently struck Huff in the chest with a large ax.

According to Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, Huff’s niece was also involved in the argument.

Lowell Huff was taken to Saint Joseph-London hospital for treatment.

Parsons, 28, was charged with first-degree assault.

He was taken to the Laurel County Corrections Center.

Joining Blunschi were Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore and Deupties Shawn Boroviak and Steve Hoskins. Detective Daryl Zanet continues the investigation.

Corbin man arrested for failure to appear in court

On Friday, Joseph Boswell, 34, of Corbin Manor, was arrested by Bailiff Brandon Broughton in the Laurel County Judicial Center.

Boswell was charged with failure to appear in court, giving a false name and address.

He was taken to the Laurel County Corrections Center.

Man arrested for false reporting

Phillip T. Johnston, 41, who listed a motel in London as an address, was charged Friday night with falsely reporting an incident, menacing and third-degree terroristic threatening. He was lodged in the Laurel County Corrections Center.

Laurel Sheriff’s Staff Sgt. Greg Poynter got a complaint from 911 dispatch that a man had made emergency calls saying that he was armed with a gun and was going to kill himself and would shoot anyone who tried to help him that night.

He told officers he was at a home on Lassie J. Lane west of London off KY 192 at a trailer in the woods.

Poynter, a KSP Trooper, a constable, EMS and paramedics went to the road but were unable to find him.

Police discovered he was calling from a motel in London and it was learned there was no emergency.

Other officers in the arrest were Sheriff’s Deputies Robbie Grimes, Steve Hoskins and Jeff Blunschi, Constable Charlie Johnson, and Trooper Jack Riley.
