CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report
Man arrested for spending counterfeit $20 bill
Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Shawn Boroviak and Kentucky State Police Sgt. Steve Walker arrested a Corbin man with trying to spend a counterfeit $20 bill at about 2 a.m. on U.S. 25E about 12 miles south of London.
The store clerk apparently checked the bill, they reported and discovered it to be a fake.
He notified the sheriff’s office and the two arrested David Hollingsworth, 46, of Corbin.
He was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and taken to the Laurel County Corrections Center.
The investigation continues by Boroviak.
Four hospitalized after auto crash
At about 7:50 p.m. Thursday, two vehicles crashed about half-way between London and the Clay County boundary on KY 80 east of London.
Kentucky State Trooper Mike King reported that Hughie S. Rogers, 49, of Manchester, was heading west when, he said, an animal ran into the roadway.
The animal caused Rogers to swerve his 1992 Buick automobile into the other lane.
It struck a Saturn passenger car driven by Ashley N. Smith, 33, of Manchester head-on.
Rogers was taken to Saint Joseph-London hospital for treatment.
A passenger in Rogers’ vehicle, Joanie B. Davis, 32, along with Ashley Smith, Tim Smith, 33, and Brandon Smith, 12, all three in the Smith vehicle, were taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
King reported that alcohol use was not suspected, but drug use is suspected to be a factor by both drivers.
Assisting were Laurel County Emergency Management and the Bush Fire Department.
