CORBIN — Times Tribune Staff Report

Domestic complaint leads to hostage situation

A domestic complaint led to a hostage situation in Laurel County, according to Sheriff John Root.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Tommy Johnston is investigating the incident, which apparently resulted in a man’s wife being held hostage, along with the couple’s two children.

Sheriff’s deputies received a complaint after 7 p.m., Monday that  shots were being fired inside a residence located nine miles east of London.

Officers learned that Donald Dixon, 41, of London, was inside thehome, and had his wife and two children held against their will. Within a few minutes after deputies arrived, the wife was allowed to leave the residence. A short time later, the two children were allowed to leave. Dixon was then talked out of the home and taken into custody. It was learned that prior to the arrival of law enforcement, Dixon had allegedly fired a shotgun inside the home several times around the vicinity of his family. He then marched his family outside the residence and fired several shotgun blasts before marching his family back inside the residence just prior to  deputies, troopers, and a  Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officer arriving at the scene, according to the report.

Dixon was arrested and charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault (Domestic  Violence), and first-degree wanton endangerment. He was transported to the Laurel County Correction Center.

Deputies Kirk Mays, Steve Hoskins, John Blanton, Lieutenant Rodney Van Zant, and Bailiff Shane Rice, KSP Trooper Justin Oliver, Trooper Nick Metcalf, and CVE Officer Rob Mitchell all responded to the scene.

W’burg man arrested for growing marijuana

A domestic dispute ended with a Williamsburg man being arrested for assault and cultivation of marijuana on Monday, according to Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell.

Raymond Melton, 27, of Williamsburg, was charged with fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), resisting arrest and cultivating marijuana by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy K.Y. Fuson.

Fuson and Deputy Kenny Shepherd responded to a domestic call at the Melton residence, which was called in to Whitley 911.

The caller stated Raymond Melton was shoving his girlfriend and would not let her leave the residence, Harrell said.

When deputies arrived at the residence, they observed Melton hitting his girlfriend and heard the girlfriend tell Melton to leave the guns alone.  Fuson got close to the door and quickly opened the door and grabbed Melton upon entry. After securing  Melton, Fuson discovered two loaded weapons beside the door where Melton was standing. The weapons included a hunting rifle with a scope and a .357 pistol, both of which were loaded. Melton resisted arrest physically and Fuson observed three marijuana plants in pots in the front yard of the house.

Melton was transported to the Whitley County Detention Center.
